New single from “Ghosts” – OUT NOW
The Riptide Movement release new single “Changeling” from their Top 5 charting album “Ghosts”, available now.
Inspired by the story of Bridget Cleary – and drawing from early Irish mythology and other historical cases involving the culture of Changelings, Mal lyrically paints the backdrop of the song;
“Using Bridget’s story and other mythical characters as the backdrop, I wanted to highlight how our belief systems can be dangerous and corrosive to society and humanity, and how perceived righteous, religious and spiritual beliefs can be detrimental. Basically I want the listener to question their own belief systems, what do they stand for and believe in strongly and why do they believe so strongly in their beliefs?” says Mal.
He continues; “I wanted to highlight the role these belief systems have on society as a whole and the pressure that puts on society to conform to the norm and how it can create a culture of repression, a repression of self expression”.
Having blown the Irish music scene wide open in 2014 with their Number One, gold-selling album ‘Getting Through’, a string of Top 10 singles and various sold-out headline tours, the four piece – comprising Malachy Tuohy (vocals, piano and guitar), John Dalton (guitar), Gerry McGarry (bass & harmonica) and Gar Byrne (drums & percussion) – having just returned from a tour of Germany – have also announced a series of dates in Ireland and around Europe including London on March 4th at and another big Dublin headliner on March 17th at The fOlympia Theatre.
‘It’s been an amazing two years since we released our third studio album ‘Getting through’ with so many highs to recall – from our first # 1 Gold selling album, to touring the UK, Europe and Australia – it has really been an incredible journey for us’, says Mal. “And we are seriously excited about returning to the UK and Europe from January 2017 onwards to promote the upcoming release of Ghosts. .
